When we find ourselves in a season or seasons that are not desirable, we often fall in a funk. We get down, overwhelmed and discouraged.
This is the opposite of what we should do. I know this tends to be much easier said than done, but its possible to achieve more with a little attitude change. Whether you find yourself in a season of singleness, jobless ( or a job where you are not being fulfilled) loneliness, or in a season of confusion – where you don’t really know what is going on in your everyday life, there is a glass half full side to this. Besides, aren’t there sunny days in Winter?
I want to share some practical ways to navigate through your season. Now, I’m not going to be the one that tells you to “get over it” or “this happens to everyone.” I believe that it is healthy to acknowledge the space that is surrounding you.
So, the steps are:
Reflection
Take note of your situation. Be honest as you are reflecting. Nothing is ever all bad, so, what is something positive that is going on? Ask yourself if this is something that you really need to be bent out of shape about. Be conscious of your everyday habits and routine, how can they be altered or adjusted? Think about what you allow yourself to consume( food, media, conversations, alcohol) and how do they make you feel.
Explore
Exploring new things allows you to put your thoughts and energy towards actively pursuing happiness. Take a day trip somewhere. Challenge yourself with a new task. My mom’s favorite advice is the volunteering. She believes that one will be fulfilled by giving and doing for others. Cook from a new recipe, make an art piece for your home or use this as an excuse to become more physically active.
Relationships
Consider the relationships with family, friends and co-workers that need to be mended. Having healthy relationships truly play a large role in your life. On the flip side, there are those relationships that need to be cut off. Take the time to evaluate the value others are investing in your life.
Self Love
You are your biggest critic and your main influence. Make the choice to use this time to pursue yourself. Get to know yourself. Invest in yourself. Appreciate and love yourself in the midst of your season. This is very important because it is so easy to be discouraged about things that we feel we don’t have control over. You still have the final choice, you can choose to be filled with joy regardless.
Pray, Pray, Pray
Spend time with God and ask Him about what you should be learning during this time. How does He want to direct you? Then listen to His response and submit to it. Remember to focus on the promises, not the process.
These steps can really alter your outlook on what you once believed to be an undesirable season. Take control and change the forecast.
From me to you,
